    Does BMI reflect political beliefs?
I came across an article on one of my rss feeds that gave an interesting color coded map of the states with the most and least instances of obesity:

Isn't it weird how similar it is to the voting patterns of those states? Sure there are exceptions, but I see a trend.

Piece of Art at Sonoma State University
A picture of a piece of art that a teacher at Sonoma State University has displayed behind glass. You can see my silhouette as well as bushes, flowers, a wall, and a bench behind me.

    Big ol' pic here )

"Andy Warhol is brilliant, but I don't know if most people get him. I think he would be able to appreciate this, because he was pretty lazy. I am writing this in my darkened room, while I am lying in bed with a girl. I have decided that, in refusing to get up and use the computer, or even turn on a light I am showing either an immense amount of willpower or complete lack thereof. In a sense, this sheet of paper is a projection of myself, and can therefore, I'd say, be declared a work of art.
Half of you are thinking: "What shit," and I bet that's the half that didn't much enjoy the museum. Or maybe you did enjoy it and you're just hating me for being more clever than you. Both of these things are okay. It is eight in the morning, and nobody should be concious [sic] at this hour, and frankly, I don't give two shits about what you think. I'm in bed with a girl, and you are not. Rock on."

    Frank Chu on TV!
There's this wonderful Swedish TV show called 100 Höjdare (100 Highlights) which looks great, but I cannot understand since it's in Swedish. They basically meet various weird people and talk to them. Well, the latest season (#6), takes place in the USA, so the majority is in English, and we get to find out just how funny the hosts are. In the episode I just saw they have a short interview with Frank Chu, a semi-famous San Franciscan crazy person. Fortunately youtube has a clip so I can show everyone:

Using Twitter to Leave the Clink (via tjcrowley)
I came across an interesting article about how a UC Berkeley grad student got arrested while covering food riots (!) in Egypt. After being arrested he managed to use his cellphone and Twittered off a quick one word update -- "Arrested." This got him quicker help from friends than he would have had otherwise. Unfortunately his interpreter didn't share the same fate.

    A few interesting themes here...
globalism - how Twitter, a small company based a few miles away from me in San Francisco plays a role in someone's fate in Egypt.
rising price of food - which seems to be an emerging theme in the news lately
technology - gadgetry saves the day.

I guess it's a matter of time til police worldwide get better at confiscating cellphones. Maybe there finally will be a point to buying the tiniest cellphone possible!

Wii Games You Can Play Without a Wii
Warning - this game, Paint Ball, is highly addictive! I found a whole collection of Wii games adapted for computer play at this link http://tinyurl.com/vcr8m. I've only tried 2 so far, Tactical Assassin and Paint Ball and really liked them both.

The Unsolved SkyJacking Crime, and how it reminds me of the Zodiac Murders
There is something that inspires people about a deadly mystery. I read an interesting piece today about a man who successfully hijacked a plane in 1971 which was flying from Portland to Seattle. He demanded $200,000 cash and ultimately escaped the whole scene by parachuting from the plane over the Southwest part of Washington state. The press at the time misnamed him "D.B. Cooper," and the name stuck. The FBI interviewed over 1,000 people trying to figure out the case, but it was never solved. "They" even made a movie about it.

Only now, 36 years later do we have new developments in this case! And it looks like the person who did the crime is already dead from cancer. This reminds me a lot of the Zodiac murders here in San Francisco.

Have you ever drunk Bailey's out of a shoe?
If you're not sure why I've started spouting strange lines like "I'm Old Gregg!" and "Have you ever drunk Bailey's out of a shoe?" no doubt you're not familiar with Old Gregg from the BBC show "The Mighty Boosh."

I must have watched this 4 times last night, and I kept laughing. But don't expect instant LULZ. You have to be patient and give it a chance. Also, you have to have a big tolerance for transsexual fish men!

Wherein I Become a Paid User!
Some kind soul bought me 2 months worth of paid LJ, but I don't know who. Step forward gracious soul! I thought perhaps it was [info]shirleycr, because we were trading comments when I got the gift. But she says it's not her.

Perhaps it was a hint that I've overused my 6 icons sufficiently and am ready to move on to new rat icons? The irony is that I've been very busy between work, school, and a new site I've been hanging out at and have neglected LJ a bit, though I'm still a regular reader.

So, just because I can, I present you with my first poll ever!

    International Hops Shortage

This is some scary stuff! Sure, let the US economy flop, but as soon as my beer supply is touched it becomes personal. I'd say that IPAs, especially double hopped IPAs, are my favorite beer, so this impacts me especially.
